| Formerly used as the family living room, the largest space on the main floor of the Mansion is the library. Located to the right of the front entry hall, this is the primary location for ceremonies, reception seating, and dancing. A massive hooded fireplace, with heavily carved lions and original wrought iron andirons - all specially designed by architect Kirtland K. Cutter - is the dramatic focal point of this room. An entire wall is filled with glazed Gothic oak bookcases, now filled with Stimson and Green family volumes and artifacts. The east side of the room contains a raised dais framed with turned columns and balustrade. For those guests who prefer live music, there is a baby grand piano and space for other musicians on that level of the room. The dais also leads out to a small, railed porch overlooking the back garden. An old apple tree, whose branches arch over stone benches and a curving brick retaining wall, often serves as a focal point for outdoor photographs. |
